The Director of Christian Education will:

1. Have oversight as to the functions of the various departments. (Children, Youth, Young Adult and Adult)

2. See that the department is supplied with necessary materials to ensure a successful program.

3. Provide that all special days are observed with programs.

4. Provide that our children, as well as adults, are instructed in Zion Methodism.

The Director of Christian Education is also responsible for whatever is necessary to promote a successful Sunday School program and Vacation Bible School.

This event is activity insures the church’s visibility in the community and also serves to meet needs of many of the students returning to school.  School supplies are distributed and solicited from local businesses:  food, games, face painting, etc., comprise some of the activities.  Streets are blocked off and a great community activity day blesses the church and the community.  The Evangelism Team also ministers during this time to disseminate and receive information leading to decisions for Christ.  

The goal of Children’s Church is to teach and inspire young children through the Word of God, to highlight things concerning the “love of God” and His care for children on a weekly basis.  Children grow and develop in many ways—physically, mentally, socially, emotionally and spiritually!  During these early years, spiritual nurture and development are extremely important.  It is during this time that a child learns the basic spiritual building blocks on which they will rely to help them deal with the many challenges they must face in their lives

This committee is the voice for social change and awareness.  Their purpose is to disseminate information to the congregation on issues that impact the quality of our lives, whether they concern health, education, world peace, race relations, political, social and economic affairs.  This group provides a forum for political candidates to be heard so that the membership and the community can make informed decisions at the polls.

God’s Word is taught each week in Sunday School for all ages.  Every church having 10 or more members shall organize a Sunday School for the purpose of giving interpretation and guidance in the Christian way of life (AME Zion Book of Discipline).

Vacation Bible School is one of the greatest opportunities we have to reach all people, especially children and pre-schoolers, during the summer months.  It continues to be one of the most productive special events in terms of both finding prospects and leading them to the Lord.

Wednesday at 12:00 noon and 6:30 p.m.

The mid-week worship and Bible Study class teaches how God’s Word can and should be applied to our daily lives.  We sing, praise, study, and pray together as we grow in our faith!

In Girl Scouts, girls discover the fun, friendship, and power of girls together. Through a myriad of enriching experiences, such as extraordinary field trips, sports skill-building clinics, community service projects, cultural exchanges, and environmental stewardships, girls grow courageous and strong. Girl Scouting helps girls develop their full individual potential; relate to others with increasing understanding, skill, and respect; develop values to guide their actions and provide the foundation for sound decision-making; and contribute to the improvement of society through their abilities, leadership skills, and cooperation with others  

This ministry conducts the total scholarship program of Pennsylvania Avenue.  The Pennsylvania Avenue scholarship ministry enables our church to provide financial assistance to deserving young men and women of our church who are high school seniors and who have been accepted for admission to an institution of higher learning.  The Pennsylvania Avenue Scholarship Ministry is a ministry whose mission is to provide encouragement to Pennsylvania Avenue students.  Since this ministry is self-supported this committee coordinates fundraising projects

WThis ministry is designed to provide medical assistance and needs for worshippers and visitors.  This ministry is geared to assist with providing care and attention to worshippers.  This ministry will also expose the congregation to healthy habits, aid during medical emergencies, and share health tips for preventive care.  Further, this ministry will sponsor events and programs that will educate, encourage, and emphasize healthy lifestyles for our membership and community.
